LifeCell International Launches Cord Tissue Banking Service in Madurai (Madurai, July 27, 2009)

LifeCell International, India’s first & the largest stem cell banking service provider and a pioneer in stem cell research, technology & therapy, announced the launch of Umbilical cord tissue banking service in Madurai at Hotel Pandian, today. The technology to harness the potential of Umbilical Cord Tissue, a rich source of Mesenchymal stem cells was developed in-house at the LifeCell R&D center at Chennai., India.

Previously after the collection of the umbilical cord blood, the remaining solid cord tissue was normally discarded. This tissue was identified to be a rich source of Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) which are superior to bone marrow MSCs, as they are fetal in nature and therefore more robust.

Customers who want to store their cord tissue have a range of options with LifeCell. The company has also announced Dual package for its service. Where by the customers can store their baby’s cord tissue and cord blood at the same price. With LifeCell’s “Baby Cord” plan the interested parents can enroll and store their baby’s Cord blood stem cells and cord tissue for 21 years by paying Rs. 3500 as a monthly EMI for 2 years. Other options available are onetime storage fee of Rs.79, 000/- or initial processing fee of Rs. 44,600/- with an annual storage fee of Rs. 3500/-.

However, if the client prefers to process the cord tissue and store the harvested stem cells, then they may choose the “Baby Cord Duo” plan by paying a monthly EMI of Rs. 5000 for 2 years. Alternate options available are a onetime fee of Rs.1,17,500 or an initial process fee Rs.63,100/- for the first year with an annual storage fee of aRs.5,500/- per year for 21 years.
