Infrastructure
LifeCell has a 21,000 square feet state-of-the-art stem cell processing and banking facility in the outskirts of Chennai city, in Keelakottaiyur. Our facility has a capacity to store over 1 lakh samples.
It is significant importance to mention that LifeCell has been accredited by AABB (American Association of Blood Banks). With this accreditation LifeCell becomes the "First and only Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank in India to have procured the prestigious AABB accreditation".
The Research and Development division of LifeCell has been recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India.
LifeCell facility conforms to the US FDA standards and the core team at LifeCell has been trained by Cryo-Cell International.
- The storage facility is an earth quake resistant building i.e it is a concrete structure.
- All equipment is backed up for 24 hours with UPS and Generators, in case of a power failure.
- Adequate fire fighting measures such as automatic sprinklers and alarm systems are present throughout the building.
- The storage is raised on the first floor to avoid flooding.
- The facility is been fitted with a Central Monitoring system which monitors the temperature, humidity and pressure, 24*7 to ensure a controlled environment as required for Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Current Good Laboratory Practices.
The Testing and Processing Area
Inside the facility, the lab is divided into 3 clean rooms of different classes, based on the kind of processes that need to be carried out:
- General laboratory area: class 1,00,000 clean room
- Infectious disease testing: class 10,000 clean room
- Cord blood processing: class 100 clean room
Our clean rooms are maintained in 3 ways
- 0.3 micron HEPA filters that continuously filter the air in the rooms.
- Our laboratory personnel wear protective clothing i.e. bunny suits
- Personnel enter and exit through 'air locks'
The Storage Area
The stem cells in cryo-bags are stored in tanks that are cooled by liquid nitrogen, which does not require electricity. Liquid nitrogen is less subject to fluctuations in its temperature. The storage temperature is maintained at -196o C. Our computer system constantly monitors and tracks your baby's stem cells at all times.
The tanks have inbuilt trolleys, which enable them to be shifted in case of any predicted calamity.
